~~Synopsis~~
Twelve years ago, Jolene’s adoptive mother died. Twelve years ago, a man showed up at Jolene’s door and promised to take care of her. Twelve years ago, Jolene was happy.
Then it all changed…
Jolene Bergio has spent the last twelve years of her life asking one question… Why? Why was she left in the custody of a man who would sell her each and every night to the highest bidder? After a few years, she shut off, giving up hope that anyone would ever find her. Until her luck changed one night and she escaped. Twelve years later, she finally feels something she hasn’t felt in a long time… Free.
Scared that her past will find her unexpectedly, she hides away in a rented beach house, trying to distance herself from everyone… Until Dr. Cameron Bowen enters her world and slowly tears down the walls that she has built up over the past twelve years of her captivity. Jolene begins to learn to love again.
And trust again.
But when a man from Jolene’s past emerges, will she be able to keep her identity hidden? When lies are told and hearts are broken, will the truth surface in time to bring Jolene back from the shadows that threaten to expose who she really is?
Heart of Light is a captivating story of love, strength, and survival.

~~4 Star Review~~
Heart of light by T.K. Leigh… How do I go into this without
writing a novel myself instead of a review?
This novel is a standalone but a type of spin off from her previous Beautiful
Mess series. This book brings light to
the very horrible truth about human trafficking. We go on a journey with one very special
character, Jolene. We experience some
insights on what she had lived with and continuously suffers through. You can’t come out the same person from reading
something like this. This was a very
power novel.
Jolene is someone who had suffered through the unimaginable
torture through the hands of a monster.
Something that should have been a special day turns out to be the
turning point in her fate. T.K. Leigh
was able to make me feel every emotion under the sun. Betrayal, pain, hurt, unloved, loss,
bitterness, loathing, relief, happy, excited and then the most important…hope.
There were a few things that I had issues with. I’m an equal judger. I have problems with both sexes doing things
that seem to be out of character. I felt
that Jolene forgave Cameron a little too easily in a certain situation. Some of the things that were said between
characters, which lead to a horrible situation, were something, I felt, that
should have had an intermission. There needed
to be some kind of reflection for the characters after, where they needed to
take a step back and find growth between characters. The recovery rate from a tragedy so severe
seemed a bit rushed.
Now here’s where it gets a bit real. This isn’t your contemporary romance. It’s dark.
You ever experience a situation where something horrible happens? You don’t know what, but you know it is just
going to rip your heart out? And it doesn’t
matter that you don’t want to hear the truth.
It doesn’t matter that you want to go on with your life living like
nothing ever happened. Like if you don’t
hear the truth, than it doesn’t exist.
This novel was that news. That horrible
news that just slaps you right in your face and won’t let up until you hear
everything that needs to be heard. And boy
did I hear. I heard everything and it
has shed some light on situations I have only ever seen in movies.
I am standing up and applauding you, T.K. Leigh, for doing
such a fantastic job bringing us such a fantastic novel. It’s been awhile since I have read a book
where it makes you appreciate what you have in life.
~~About the Author~~
When she’s not planted in front of her computer, writing away, she can be found running and training for her next marathon (of which she has run over fifteen fulls and far too many halfs to recall). Unlike Olivia, the main character in her Beautiful Mess series, she has yet to qualify for the Boston Marathon.
